Just as rock ‘n’ roll itself was a synthesis of a variety of musical strands across R&B, blues, country and jazz, the music of The Rolling Stones drew on an eclectic range of musical experiences across the music spectrum which had pervaded their childhood and teenage years. Unlike many of their peers, whose experiences were limited to what they heard on mainstream radio, they discovered and sought out blues and jazz recordings which took them they helped shape both their repertoire and songwriting and developed their unique musical personality that marked them out one of the greatest rock bands of their era. This 28-track CD brings together some of those records which influenced the way they performed and the repertoire of their early years – indeed they recorded their own versions of some of the songs on singles and albums early in their career. It’s a hugely entertaining collection of music in its own right, but it also provides a fascinating insight into what helped make them such a unique force in music.
