Guest turns sharpen the attack: Jim Carroll powers the spiralling epic ‘Zero’ (with vocals from Wes Eisold), Patrick Cozens lends a feral edge to ‘Downfall’, Frank Carter appears on ‘Man On Fire’, and Taylor Young adds guttural heat to ‘The Beat’. The record’s final pair – ‘The Knife’ and ‘The Beat’ – sum up the band’s oddball genius: tender, life-minded lyrics rubbing up against riffs built to crush.
