Description
Ella Fitzgerald compilation ‘The Hits’, limited gatefold edition pressed on 180g virgin vinyl.
One of the few great ladies of jazz song, Ella Fitzgerald (1917-1996) inflected each tune with her unique sense of swing. The songs selected here were carefully chosen from among her best works, including compositions by such names as Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart, and Duke Ellington. Many of these tunes were taken from the celebrated song books that gained her enormous prestige. These are all studio recordings with the sole exception of her celebrated reading of Kurt Weill’s “Mack the Knife” which was an absolute hit on her “Ella in Berlin” LP.
Produced by Norman Granz, the sessions included the orchestras of Frank DeVol, Billy May, Marty Paich, Buddy Bregman, plus a host of star names including Louis Armstrong, Ben Webster, Stuff Smith, Barney Kessel, Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Louie Bellson, and Jim Hall, to name just a few.
