Description

In 2023 Deutsche Grammophon celebrates a wonderful milestone: its 125th birthday. To mark the occasion the Yellow Label makes a selection of LPs available on vinyl for the first time ever. Grigory Sokolov is one of the greatest phenomena of our time: born in the Soviet Union in 1950, the world-renowned exceptional pianist is so introverted that for years he has both stopped giving interviews and refused to make studio recordings. Moreover, Sokolov now records only solo repertoire, which is why recordings of piano concertos can be drawn exclusively from the stock of his rare concert recordings. Now Sokolov’s 2017 album is available on vinyl for the first time: two self-selected legendary recitals from 2005 and 1995, Mozart’s 23rd Piano Concerto with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by Trevor Pinnock and Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier.
